A cat coming to terms with his fate at the grooming parlor has left the internet in stitches after a video of his experience went viral on TikTok.
Shared April 8 by Philadelphia Groom & Board daycare, boarding school and grooming salon, the video has received more than 550,000 views.
The black cat is seen being washed as the text overlay jokes that it goes through the three stages of grief: denial, anger and negotiation.
In the following clip, he is seen drying his fur as the text overlay indicates that he is dealing with the final two stages: depression and acceptance.
Despite what this cat may tell anyone who listens, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) says a clean cat is a happy cat.
Usually, cats’ own built-in grooming tools (their tongue and teeth) are more than enough to keep them clean.
But, the ASPCA says that if your cat is very dirty or gets into something sticky or smelly, you may need to give her a bath. When it comes to bathing your cat, the ASPCA recommends nail clipping before a bath, for your own protection.
They also emphasize the importance of rewarding your cat with endless praise and their favorite treats when they tolerate a bathing session.
At Groom & Board, a cat can get a full treatment, including shampoo, conditioner, brush, brush, ear cleaning and nail trim, for around $65. Often sharing their fluffy clients on their TikTok account groomandboard, they have over 10,000 followers who delight in seeing the animal transformations.
While the clients are usually canine, this kitten’s grooming session won hearts online, prompting laughs from TikTok users.
“His therapist will hear about it,” one commenter joked on the video. While another TikToker wrote: “So dramatic.”
“There is no acceptance,” wrote another commenter: “He plots and plots.”
Another animal groomer who commented on the video was impressed with the effort and wrote, “As an animal groomer [I’ve] I’ve only had one cat in ten years that let me dry out.”
While a TikTok user who had also been through the cat bath ordeal wrote: “[I] Had to bathe my cat yesterday, now he walks up to me and randomly bites my feet.”
After the video captured viral attention, the groomer who cared for the angry feline shared the video on her TikTok account along with her Story.
She said, “So that’s me grooming the cat in the video. I swear it’s nowhere near as bad as they make it out to be”, and joked “This rave review should be reason enough to make an appointment immediately.”
