Online homework and schooling tools are in high demand besides personal care, wellness and grocery products as more and more customers go online for their shopping needs since mid-2020, he added.

In an interview with PTI, Bhasin said, “Over the past 15-18 months we’ve seen a lot of customers move online, not only in Tier I and II cities, but also in smaller towns. Today, 65% of customers ordering and over 85% of new customers on Amazon.in come from geographies of Level II and below. “



The Amazon.in Marketplace is operated by Amazon Seller Services Private Ltd, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc.

Stating that the customers of almost 100% of India’s serviceable PIN codes are in their network, he said there was a great demand for personal care products such as trimmers, razors, hair care products. hair removal as well as wellness products like scales, BP monitors etc since last year.

Masks and disinfectants, personal health and disinfection products are also in high demand, he added.

Bhasin further said since the lockdown began in late March last year, high demand in categories such as groceries, work from home, and online schooling tools like laptops, phones. , smart devices, headphones, furniture and consumer electronics, among others, has been seen.

Grocery has been one of our fastest growing categories, he said.

He also informed that with the onset of the monsoon, washing machines have seen a growth in demand 1.5 times greater than in March of this year, with more than half of the growth coming from non-metropolitan cities and level II.

Regarding the current size of the e-commerce market in the country, Bhasin said it is still in its early stages of development and only accounts for 4% of retail consumption.

“However, the sector is already transforming lives and livelihoods and is becoming a key contributor to the country’s economic growth,” he added.
