It’s the season for delicious scented candles with vanilla, pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon crunch. Of course, we want them to burn bright and clean, so we can enjoy them to the fullest. Fortunately, there is a way to make your candles shine brighter.

Trimming a candle’s wick will help it shine brighter each time you light it.

That’s right, you should trim the wick after each use to ensure it burns cleaner and brighter. And by every use, we mean every single use, so no skipping!

Start by trimming the wick to be between 1/8 and 1/4 inch long. You can use scissors, nail clippers, or invest in a wick trimmer.

This not only makes the candle flame look nicer and cleaner, but also prevents the glass jar from collecting those smoky black specks inside. This is because a trimmed wick keeps the flame under control, preventing it from staining the glass.

Also, before lighting a candle, make sure you can let it burn for a few hours before blowing it out. You want the melted wax to cover the entire surface of the candle before extinguishing it. Otherwise, only the center of the candle will burn and melt, sinking the wick lower near the bottom while the rest of the wax is still formed on the sides. This makes lighting the wick more difficult and perfectly wastes good candle wax, which would have provided many uses!
