Byrne Avenue Baths site reopening date announced

The date of the reopening of the Byrne Avenue Baths site in Birkenhead has been revealed.

The Rock Ferry monument has undergone extensive renovations over the past four years – and the first stage of development is now set to launch this fall.

A gym and community hall will be available from September, with longer-term plans including the reopening of the original pool, baths and a new cafe.

Campaigners saved the Grade II listed building from demolition in 2017 and have since raised over £ 500,000 to start restoring the baths to their former glory and creating a new space for people to enjoy.

Last weekend was the 90th anniversary of the foundation stone, and to mark the occasion, Byrne Avenue Trust, the charity behind the project, is inviting people to learn more about their work.

They look forward to hearing from anyone who remembers using the baths or has photos and memories to share.

Speaking of the plans, Byrne Avenue Trust Chairman Ben Harrison said: “We are really excited to finally open our doors in September.

“We want the Baths to be a place where locals of all ages feel welcome to come and enjoy everything from movie nights and ‘knitting’ sessions to badminton, zumba and indoor football.

“The 90th anniversary is a great time to share our plans and the good news regarding the launch and our crowdfunding.”

A crowdfunding campaign has now been launched to fund the next stage of the renovation project – a new ground floor cafe, located in the Gents’ Slipper Baths.

Residents and supporters can register to donate funds and receive rewards once the cafe opens.
