Bathing advisories issued for 63 Suffolk beaches and 17 Nassau beaches due to heavy rain



Warnings against swimming at 63 Suffolk beaches and 17 Nassau beaches have been issued due to recent heavy rains.

Additionally, Philip Healey Beach in Massapequa has been closed until further notice due to high bacterial levels, Nassau health officials said.

In a statement, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services said the beaches covered by the advisory are in areas “heavily influenced by stormwater runoff from surrounding watersheds or adjacent tributaries and, due to from their location in closed bays, are subject to limited tides. rinsing.”

The advisory expires at 7 a.m. on Sunday unless high levels of bacteria are detected, Suffolk officials said.

The Nassau advisory was also issued due to concerns about stormwater runoff. That advisory ends at 10 a.m. Saturday, unless there is additional heavy rainfall or water samples reveal high bacterial levels, Nassau health officials said.
